In 1986, the Alvarez family, which owns the Bodegas Vega Sicilia that produces the legendary "Unico", decided to create vineyards to produce a quality wine with a different philosophy and its own identity, quite independent of the Bodegas Vega Sicilia. The vineyards and cellars are located in Peñafiel (Valladolid). The first vintage, "Alion 1991", appeared in 1995. It was immediately ranked amongst the Wine Spectator's top 100 wines of the world.

Color : Bright ruby red.
Nose : Intense, complex, full-bodied with some mineral, spicy touches and flavours of very ripe black fruit and mocha.
Mouth : Opulent, velvety, warm, elegant and fresh, despite the high alcohol content. The tannins are supple and refined. The balance between the acids, alcohol and tannins is perfect. Exceptional length, with a roasted finale.
Alcohol level : 14.0%
Winemaking : 15 years in oak barrels, then 10 years in the bottle.
Food pairing : A wine for special occasions, refined cuisine, cuts of quality red meat, game, full-bodied cheeses.
Aging potential : 14 months in French oak barrels.
