Cantine Re Manfredi was founded in 1998 in the heart of the DOC Aglianico del Vulture in northern Basilicata. The winery is located in Venosa, a village known as the birthplace of the famous Latin poet Horace, born in 65 BC. Re Manfredi, which literally means King Manfredi, refers to a Swabian king who ruled in the area. Swabia was a region in southern Germany, which is why grape varieties such as Gewürztraminer and Müller-Thurgau are still grown here today.
Today, the estate is managed by Andrea Autino. This talented winegrower, who graduated from the wine universities of Turin and Milan, did his apprenticeship abroad, particularly in Australia. On his return, he took over the reins of the estate and brought modernity, rigour and quality to the production of the wines. The vineyard is spread over a hundred hectares and lies on mostly volcanic soil, with a microclimate that is ideal for growing vines.
